The evil books (otherwise known as the Books of Evil[1]) are twelve spell books created by Merlok to hold Monstrox's evil, dividing his power and evil among the eleven other books. Formerly found in Merlok's library, the books were spread across the realm when Merlok set off an explosion and sacrificed himself to save Clay from a newly-evil Jestro.
Most of the books possess magical properties. The Book of Monsters can eat these books to gain their powers.

Prior to the series[]
After defeating Monstrox, Merlok 2.0 locked his evil into twelve evil spell books that he kept in his library. Foolishly, he attempted to study them, thinking he could learn them, while Monstrox, now the Book of Monsters, slept in a chamber.
